The other day, I happened to see a trailer for Pixar’s next movie, Brave. (Looks interesting, by the way. I imagine I’ll go see it, when it’s released.)

I noticed that Brave is billed as a ‘Disney / Pixar’ production, even though the Disney people (so far as I know) had nothing to do with its creation. Disney’s own animated efforts have been disappointing, so they’re trying to poach a little undeserved glory.

And I thought of how the GNU people are pushing the (unwieldy) term ‘GNU / Linux’ on everyone, for exactly the same reason. Their own OS project (Hurd, or some such) has been flailing around for twenty years; so they’ve latched onto Linux and – like Disney – are trying to poach a little undeserved glory.
