CNN says:
More than three years after the last "Star Trek" movie crashed at the box office, the venerable sci-fi franchise is being revived by the director of the upcoming "Mission: Impossible" sequel, Daily Variety reported in its Friday edition.
I don’t know whether to be happy that there’s going to be another Star Trek movie, or unhappy that the spuds responsible for the Mission: Impossible movie franchise are going to be involved in it.
The first Mission: Impossible movie would have been all right, except for the unforgivable sin of making Mr. Phelps the villain; the second was a generic Hollywood action movie, full of generic violence & mayhem, tagged with the Mission: Impossible title just to cash in on whatever viewer interest and goodwill were left after the first one; I don’t suppose I’ll bother watching the third.
I surely do hope that these people don’t do to Star Trek what they did to Mission: Impossible….
I would find it interesting to see what could be done with the Deep Space Nine crew in a feature film. They’re younger, in most cases, and a little more versatile story-wise. I’d even go along for the ride on a Voyager movie. If the need for the Next Generation cast is so great, maybe a “Q Continuum” storyline would be fun. I’d like to see the original, more ominous version of Q, I think he was a better foil/adversary for Picard. There’s a lot of possibilities, there’s certainly enough fan fiction out there to draw some new ideas from. I’d go for almost anything EXCEPT anything to do with Enterprise. Hated it, flat out. No redemptive value what so ever. Bleah. Maybe someday I’ll tell you how I really feel. Lol.
I liked Q’s appearance on Deep Space Nine: Q pops in, mouths off to Sisko; Sisko slugs Q; Q looks up from the deck and says, Picard never hit me….
Star Trek XI is supposedly Kirk Spock, the early days. First meeting, Starfleet Academy, etc. I don’t suppose any of the series casts will be in it..
I hate when they don’t follow canon, though. Hasn’t it pretty much been established that they met on the Enterprise? I don’t remember hearing mention of time at the academy together before. I know I’m just a girl and all, but d**n it. I hate it when stuff gets rewritten for the sake of making newer stuff. Why not just make it an asinine “alternate universe” movie while they’re at it????? Maybe it’s Mirror Spock and Kirk at the academy. Who knows, who cares?
I had a Star Trek book long ago that included a warning about Federation disinformation campaigns, which I suppose is the producers’ way of saying, We can do anything we want.
Didn’t they do that in the last season of Enterpise? Some alien species, never mentioned in the other series or in any of the movies, slags half of Earth (which event was likewise unmentioned outside Enterprise) in a desperate attempt to inject conflict drama into a moribund series.
It didn’t work, though.
I only watched two episodes of Enterprise: one from the first season, and the (embarrassing) series finale. It’s still around in reruns, but I haven’t felt the need to watch.
